July 28, 2010 Soccer programs wrap up successful youth camp MITCHELL, S.D. – Soccer programs around the state will start their seasons in the coming weeks, and some area players got in some extra practice this week in Mitchell, S.D. The Dakota Wesleyan University men’s and women’s soccer programs hosted a residential soccer camp July 25-28, and more than 50 boys’ and girls’ soccer players in sixth through 12th grades traveled to Mitchell to take part.
Campers from Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana and all over South Dakota participated in the camp, which featured two training sessions each day with DWU men’s coach Jeremy Tosaya, women’s coach Dale Roden and DWU players and coaches from the community. It also featured one game session, an afternoon at the Mitchell Aquatic Center and individual evaluation for each camper by the coaches. “Any time soccer players take time out of their summer to improve their ability, it shows how dedicated they are,” Tosaya said. “These are the types of athletes that are going to improve and be the impact players at their respective programs. I really enjoyed working with all the campers, and hope they had as much fun as I did playing under the lights on the Championship Field at the Pepsi Soccer Complex.” The campers were the first athletes to scrimmage on the new Championship Field, which was recently completed at the Pepsi Soccer Complex. The camp was one of many Tosaya helped at throughout the summer. He worked at camps in Rapid City, Mitchell, Hot Springs, Pierre and the South Dakota Olympic Development Program State Camp. The Tiger women open their season with an exhibition game against Iowa Lakes Community College Aug. 19 in Spencer, Iowa. Their first home contest is an exhibition game against Northern State University on Aug. 26. The men host their annual Blue and White Scrimmage Aug. 16 at 5 p.m. Their first game is an exhibition match against Presentation College Aug. 24 in Aberdeen. The Tiger men open their home season Sept. 1 against Grace University at 5 p.m. |
