At
various times in a student’s life, situations may occur where it
might be helpful to talk with someone trained and licensed as a professional
counselor. At Dakota Wesleyan University, Sally Wickware-Thompson is the
campus counselor. You can find her at Rollins
Campus Center in the lower level or at extension 2896. Her office
is a comfortable setting to have a relaxed conversation, sort out confusing
situations and find a solution that works best for you.
Topics that often concern college students are relationships with peers,
family members, faculty and staff; self-confidence; adjustment problems;
addictions; academic challenges; financial concerns; and a variety of
mental health issues. Whatever concerns you or is a source of discomfort
in your life is reasonable to consider talking over with a counselor.
The campus counselor is available to assist in various ways including
individual counseling, group counseling and making referrals. Counselors
can provide help in coping with the pressures and challenges of college
life and may provide group educational sessions when helpful.
All counseling contacts are confidential.
