MITCHELL – Faculty from the education department at Dakota Wesleyan University recently attended the National Association for Curriculum Development conference in New Orleans. Education department faculty who attended were Kathy Budahl, assistant professor; Becky Feaster, professor; Gloria Leonard, professor; and Rene Pruitt, assistant professor. The conference focused on the theory of constructivism, which includes brain-based learning, using technology as an instructional strategy, the significance of attending to a diversified population (multiculturalism) and motivational strategies. The headliner at the conference was Stedman Graham, best known for his relationship with Oprah Winfrey, who spoke about the student’s search for identity. Graham spoke about a process that teaches the development of life skills. The primary goal of his Success Process™ is to provide teens with a sense of identity, direction and control, to give them a sense of self, which sets the stage for helping them to achieve their greatest potential.
