Oct. 27, 2008 New majors at DWU
MITCHELL – The Dakota Wesleyan University Board of Trustees approved two new majors at their fall board meeting earlier this month. The majors, healthcare administration and corporate and homeland security, will lead to Bachelor of Arts degrees. The healthcare administration major will serve those interested in working for healthcare institutions and those who are currently in healthcare but wish to enhance their management skills. “What is unique about this degree,” said Amy Novak, DWU Provost, “is that we have the ability to combine this new healthcare administration major with two other distinctive DWU programs, the Kelley Center for Entrepreneurship and the McGovern Center for Leadership and Public Service. Often when we think of healthcare administration, we think of hospital administration. What the marketplace is indicating, however, is that there is potential for growth in all areas related to healthcare, including the supply chain, insurance and data management, as well as clinic and long-term care facility administration, public policy and entrepreneurship related to healthcare.” The corporate and homeland security major will prepare students for the political, social, ethical and economic realities of corporate and homeland security management planning, policy formation, implementation and policy analysis. “This major is a natural complement to our popular criminal justice program,” said Novak. “The curriculum is designed to provide students with the global perspective, ethical foundation, interpersonal skills, and general awareness of current issues and trends in corporate and homeland security management.” Both majors will be available beginning in the fall of 2009. In addition to these majors, DWU will partner with USD to offer the Reserve Officer Training Corp program at Wesleyan. The ROTC partnership will allow DWU to offer a military studies minor, also beginning in the fall of 2009. For more information on these programs, contact the enrollment services office at 995-2650 or admissions@dwu.edu. |
