Enrollment numbers released at DWU

MITCHELL — Dakota Wesleyan University enrollment numbers took a slight dip this fall, although the students who are enrolled are academically sound.

This year’s total student count stands at 714, compared to last year’s 793. That difference is largely attributed to a smaller number of part-time students this year.

“The decrease in enrollment only validates our institutional reorganization and our efforts to strengthen our market presence within South Dakota and our neighboring states” said Amy Novak, provost. “In order to grow in the future we must define and excel in certain niches.”

Novak pointed out that the academic profile of students held steady; the average freshman ACT is at 21.24 and the average GPA is 3.19.

“We are confident,” said Novak, “that our new academic and student life initiatives which will be unveiled later this year, will enable us to define DWU throughout the region and ensure strong enrollment growth in years to come.”

“As of today, we have welcomed 281 new students to campus, which was right on target for our recruitment goals,” Novak said.
