DWU students meet with state leaders in Pierre

MITCHELL – Students in DWU’s state and local government class spoke with state leaders in Pierre on Feb. 24.

Donald Simmons, the professor of the class and director of the McGovern Center for Leadership and Public Service, took eight students to the capitol.

The class met with Gov. Rounds; watched the legislature in session; sat in on legislative committee hearings; and met with lobbyists, DWU intern Matt Dutt and DWU alumna Katrina Jarding, director of the Democratic Legislative Caucus.

The students who went on the trip were Drew Miller, Pierre; Allison Hajek, Omaha, Neb.; Katy Duffy, Platte; Max Kemink, Castlewood; Tyler Welch, Parkston; Jason Latham, Camp Crook; Adam Shiffermiller, Omaha, Neb.; and Derric Ludens, Geddes.
