DWU’s Streak wins smoking ban video contest

Click HEREMITCHELL – DWU’s Streak group won the South Dakota Tobacco Free Kids Network’s video contest and was awarded a $100 gift certificate to Subway.

The contest sought the best video sending the message, “It’s Time” for a smoke-free South Dakota in support of HB1240, legislation that was intended to make South Dakota smoke-free.

Streak was established on the Dakota Wesleyan campus in 2008. The name Streak was chosen by the inaugural group because it is the name for a group of tigers on the move.

The purpose of the group is to promote peer education and leadership in the primary area of tobacco cessation and other areas of college health, contribute to the student leadership base on campus, and increase the well being of students, faculty, and staff.

Students are invited to apply for Streak based on recommendations and then go through an application and interview process. There are currently 13 members in the group.

The Streak video is posted at www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CZuhPE_aas. This and additional award-winning videos will be posted on the Web site, www.smokefreesd.com.
