Ludens and Nebelsick chosen for
DWU’s Scotchman and Miss Wesleyan

Derric Ludens, of Geddes, and Kelsie Nebelsick, of Canistota, were
named the 72nd Scotchman and the 81st Miss Wesleyan at a special banquet
Saturday night at Dakota Wesleyan University. |
MITCHELL — Derric Ludens and Kelsie Nebelsick, seniors at Dakota
Wesleyan University, were named Scotchman and Miss Wesleyan at a special
banquet Saturday night at the university.
Ludens, of Geddes, was named the 72nd Scotchman, and Nebelsick, of Canistota,
was named the 81st Miss Wesleyan. Scotchman and Miss Wesleyan are the
highest honors given to an outstanding senior man and woman. The award
is based on scholarship, character and overall contributions to the university.
Ludens will graduate with a double-major in English and history. While
at DWU, he participated in the campus worship team, TRiO peer mentoring,
TRiO tutoring, was a TRiO Writing Center Assistant, and was a member of
Phi Kappa Phi Member and Pi Gamma Mu. He has also served as editor of
the publication, “Prairie Winds,” and coauthored an article
published in Congressional Quarterly. After graduation, he plans to attend
graduate school for classical studies or English.
Nebelsick will graduate with a degree in athletic training. While at
DWU, she participated in Student Ministry Council, student ambassadors,
TRiO peer mentoring, Athletic Training Club, SMC Senate Representative,
Peru and Mexico mission teams, Phi Kappa Phi, and Who’s Who Among
Students in American Universities and Colleges, and was a volleyball team
member and assistant coach. She was also 2009 homecoming queen. She plans
to attend the College of St. Catherine for a Doctorate of Physical Therapy
degree after graduation.
Other candidates for Miss Wesleyan include: Heather Love, Norfolk, Neb.;
Kelsey Miller, Belle Fourche; April Teel, Stickney; Danielle Richardson,
Wichita, Kan.; and Melissa Tafoya, Pueblo, Colo. Additional candidates
for the Scotchman award were: Kirk Byrd, Murdo; Patrick Ryan, St. Charles,
Ill.; and Kyle Schoenfish, Scotland. |
