April 20, 2010 DWU adds graphic design major MITCHELL — Graphic design has infiltrated every aspect of communication. From magazines and newspapers to art galleries and the Internet, there are numerous employment fields awaiting a graphic design major. This is why Dakota Wesleyan University has recently designed and accepted a new Bachelor of Arts degree in graphic design. Through computer design applications and hands-on experience, students learn to organize and translate creative ideas into marketable visual communications products – and there are multiple fields in which to apply these skills. “DWU’s graphic design major is distinct in that its curriculum includes courses in art, graphics, multimedia, journalism and business,” said Amy Novak, DWU provost and executive vice president. “Our goal was to prepare the strongest possible graduates for entry into the workplace. This is an exciting merger of disciplines and our hope is that students will benefit from this multifaceted curriculum.” |
