2010 winners of the Agnes Hyde Writing Contest announced

MITCHELL — The talent has been tallied and the winners of this year’s Agnes Hyde Writing Contest were announced.

The following is a list of the winners of this year’s literary contest at Dakota Wesleyan University.

Fiction
First place, “Mary-Sue,” Ariel Ptak, Mitchell
Second place, “A Morning on the Beach,” Mollie Grove, Alexandria
Third place, “The Sidelot,” Michael Lynch, Omaha, Neb.

Poetry
First place, “My Dark Prince,” and “Fisherman’s Lie,” Lacey Reuer, Gregory
Second place, “Humor Me,” Michael Lynch
Third place, “Love On Her Arms,” Nicole Anderson, Watertown

Essay
First place, “Speed Freak,” Erika Cobb, Mitchell
Second place, “Family Matters,” Meghan Pedersen, Spearfish
Third place, “Firecracker,” Kerrie Roozen, Spearfish

The Agnes Hyde Writing Contest was founded in 1985 by English professor Joe Ditta and its namesake was a 1924 Dakota Wesleyan alumna and English professor at DWU from 1946 to 1951.
