Travel to Missouri Conference

MITCHELL — The Dakota Wesleyan athletic training students and faculty
recently returned from a conference in Missouri, carting back several
awards and recognitions on their way.
Ten students and three faculty members traveled to Columbia, Mo., March
27-28, to attend the Mid-America Athletic Trainers’ Association
Annual Meeting and Symposium. They went to educational sessions along
with the state and district business meetings. During those meetings,
several special events occurred concerning DWU’s students and faculty.
- Abby Mettler, Wessington Springs, was awarded a MAATA Undergraduate
Memorial Scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year.
- Heather Love, Norfolk, Neb., was commended for her leadership over
the past three years on the Athletic Training Student Leadership Council.
- Dakota Wesleyan’s Quiz Bowl team, consisting of Mettler; Amanda
Myers, Howard; Kelsie Nebelsick, Canistota; and Kristy McCormick (alternate),
Salem, finished in second place at the first annual Jeopardy-style MAATA
Quiz Bowl.
- Dakota Wesleyan’s Athletic Training Club was recognized for
its role in helping fund a newly formed Athletic Training Student Leadership
Council District V Scholarship.
- Lana Loken, associate professor of athletic training/clinical education
coordinator, assumed the presidency of the South Dakota Athletic Trainers’
Association for a three-year term
