at Whitworth University

MITCHELL — Dr. Donald Simmons, dean of the College of Leadership
and Public Service and graduate studies at Dakota Wesleyan University,
will be one of two featured presenters for the Annual Faculty Scholarship
Dinner at Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash., on April 9.
“Dr. Simmons has a very impressive record of research and publications,”
said Dr. Jack Burns, professor of leadership studies and management at
Whitworth University. “He knows how to utilize the resources of
a university to get the attention and respect of fellow academics from
Harvard University to the University of New Delhi.”
The presentation, “Conducting Faculty Research at Private Christian
Colleges,” will address the challenges and rewards of successful
faculty research in institutions with a commitment to Christian ideals
and a focus on service.
“I am humbled and honored to be asked to share my experiences with
such a distinguished faculty,” Simmons said. “Whitworth was
designated ‘Best in the West’ in Princeton Review’s
2010 Best Colleges, so I hope to learn a few things from them while there
as well.”
Simmons, a member of the DWU faculty since 2006, lectured and premiered
the documentary film he produced, “Hungry for Green: Feeding the
World Sustainably,” on Nov. 13, 2009, at Harvard Medical School’s
Center for Health and the Global Environment. He has published numerous
books on a variety of topics and he oversees and conducts public policy
polling for the McGovern Center at DWU.
The other presenter at the annual dinner will be Dr. John Shoup, associate
dean of the Bonnie G. Metcalf School of Education at California Baptist
University.
Recognized as one of the top regional colleges and universities in the
Pacific Northwest, Whitworth University is affiliated with the Presbyterian
Church (USA).
