| What's New Ebooks Starting in August 2011 McGovern Library users can download books from EBSCO's eBook Collection (formerly known as NetLibrary). These books can be checked out and downloaded to personal computers and many ebook readers. Unfortunately these books cannot be downloaded to Kindles. You will need to install Adobe Digital Editions in order to download ebooks. Please contact Kevin Kenkel by email or phone (995-2617) for help downloading ebook from EBSCO. EBSCO has a tutorial that explains how to download ebooks. In November 2010 McGovern Library's collection of ebooks expanded by the addition of ebrary Academic Complete, a database with more than 50,000 books in a digital format. The ebrary collection covers a broad scope of academic subject areas. Hundreds of new titles are added every month and most of ebrary's titles have been published since 2004. ebrary plans to implement download capabilities sometime sometime during the fall 2011 semester. Databases McGovern Library now has access to library resources for mobile devices. On the library's homepage we now have a In May 2010 McGovern Library subscribed to Britannica Online Academic Edition. Britannica Online features a new media viewer, a consolidated article page with related content and Web sites, and a new "My Britannica" workspace for uploading, saving, and sharing documents and media with friends and colleagues. Check back often as new features will be added periodically, including a robust editing tool for editing Britannica articles and creating original works. In April 2010 McGovern Library subscribed to Credo Reference. Credo Reference is a general reference solution offering more than 485 hundred highly-regarded titles from over 70 publishers. Credo Reference covers every major subject from the world's best publishers of reference. In October 2009 McGovern Library subscribed to the Historical New York Times database from ProQuest. The Historical New York Times (1851-2006) with Index (1851-1993) provides search capability using subject terms and topics for focused and targeted results in combination with searchable full text, full page, and article-level images from the Historical New York Times (1851-2006). This is a great improvement over using microfilm to locate articles from the New York Times. McGovern Library is able to provide access to most library databases from off-campus via the product EZProxy. If you are connecting to a library database from off-campus, you will be required to login with your campus network username and password. Once you are verified as a member of the DWU community you will connect to the resource. EZproxy is browser independent, i.e., any browser (Other than AOL) should work with EZproxy. Gale Virtual Reference Library now offers a "read aloud" function. Click on the "Listen" link at the top of the page to have the article read to you. The library has discipline-specific resource pages. These pages provide access to subject-specific databases, electronic reference books, and web resources. These pages are found at here. Library Catalog In August 2010 McGovern Library and other SDLN member libraries launched AquaBrowser® as the new online catalog user interface. AquaBrowser offers library patrons enhanced search capabilities and additional information about the titles they find. Patrons may still use the traditional Aleph OPAC interface (called the Classic Catalog) if they are more comfortable with it. The search results in the AquaBrowser catalog can be ranked by relevancy, date, title, or author. Results can be refined in a variety of ways including format, date, topic, etc. Users also can quickly and easily search other SDLN libraries. After selecting a specific title to view, users may see book reviews, first chapter excerpts, summaries, tables of contents, book jacket images, and genre notes-many of which are not found in traditional catalog records. |
