Mee ’52
2004 Outstanding Professional Achievement
Jack Mee worked for Rockwell in Anaheim, Calif., from 1962 until
he retired in 1990. During his time at Rockwell he worked in various
positions in materials research and development. He was a major contributor
in making Rockwell a world leader in growing single-crystal films
of magnetic garnet and ferrite materials.
Mee has co-authored 23 technical articles and presented papers at
several major international conferences. He has also made presentations
at Tokyo University, Johns Hopkins University and the Naval Postgraduate
School at Monterey, Calif.
Mee majored in chemistry at Dakota Wesleyan, receiving his bachelor’s
degree in 1952. He later earned a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from Iowa
State University, where he also served as a graduate assistant at the Ames
lab.
During his days at Wesleyan, Mee was involved in a cappella choir,
served as the social chairman and was the student body president
his senior year. He played basketball his junior and senior years,
was named the 1952 Scotchman and graduated at the top of his class.
Mee met his wife, Ann, at DWU and they started going together during
Freshman Week. They got married on graduation day and have spent
the last five decades together. They have three children, Jacqueline,
David and Julie.
Born in Brainerd, Minn., Mee now lives in Garden Grove, Calif., where he
serves as chair of the hospitality and igniting ministry committees at the
Garden Grove United Methodist Church.
