Academic Assessment

Everything a busy department needs to do assessment. Remember that good assessment provides the department with useful information which indicates how well the department is meeting its mission and related goals, and informs the department’s curricular and planning activities.

Expectations and Deadlines:
A Program Assessment Plan for each major is completed within the department by department faculty members and submitted to the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Each year by September 1st, each department will provide a copy of each program’s assessment plan with a report summarizing the following points to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

1. The assessment activities of the previous year. What measures of assessment were completed or not completed and if any changes were made in the assessment plan;

2. Noteworthy findings from the assessment data that were collected;

3. Any decisions or actions for improvement related to student learning that the department is making or planning based on its assessment information;

4. Any updates or amendments to the departmental program assessment plan(s); Departments should submit any revised assessment plans to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
