Dakota Wesleyan University is proud to have 15 intercollegiate sports teams. Athletics have played an important role in a DWU education for most of the university's history; nearly 50 percent of our students are athletes.

Dakota Wesleyan is a part of the Great Plains Athletic Conference, an 11-team conference in the NAIA with schools in South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa. The GPAC is traditionally one of the most competitive conferences in the country, and is traditionally well-represented at the NAIA national tournaments.

All Dakota Wesleyan University student-athletes and coaches are proud participants in the Champions of Character program, a code of ethics established by the NAIA and adapted to DWU.

Champions of Character brings formal emphasis to character development through respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship.

Each athletic team commits to doing at least one service project per semester, so it's not uncommon to see DWU student-athletes participating as volunteer coaches for Mitchell Park and Recreation programs, working with after school programs or serving at the Love Feast at First United Methodist Church.

Student-athletes are involved in music, theatre, student government, student ministry and academic clubs. They are committed to their education and their sports, and they are respected and supported by their coaches, their professors and their friends on campus.
