Adam Neisius enters his 10th season as head baseball coach at Dakota Wesleyan University. He has brought consistent national recognition and a winning tradition to the Tiger baseball program during the past nine years with an overall record of 237-185. Nationally, DWU baseball has finished in the top 40 three out of the last six years, including a two-week stint in the top 25 during the 2005 season. Of the 19 teams in Region III, DWU has finished no lower than 3rd in the final regional standings. Under Neisius’ leadership, the Tigers have qualified for the NAIA National Regional Tournament four times during the last six seasons, won the Great Plains Athletic Conference Tournament Championship in 2004 and 2005, won the GPAC Regular Season Championship in 2002 and 2005, and have made nine consecutive GPAC and SDIC tournament appearances. In 2005, Neisius was selected as the NAIA Region IV Coach-of-the-Year, as well as the GPAC Coach-of-the-Year. Since 1999, 81 DWU team and individual records have been broken. In 2002, Neisius became the head baseball coach with the most wins in DWU history. The following year he became the first baseball coach in DWU history to win 100 games when the team defeated Midland Lutheran College 13-6. Neisius surpassed the 150-win mark in 2005. His overall record stands at 237-185, with 31 of those wins against NCAA Division II opponents, as well as defeating Division I South Dakota State University in 2005. That win marks the first team victory in DWU sports history against a Division I opponent. Over the past nine seasons, the Tigers are 130-76 in conference play, 102-55 in the GPAC and an incredible 118-51 while playing at their beautiful home stadium at Cadwell Park. Under Neisius’ leadership, 74 players have been named to All-Conference teams, 12 players to All-Region teams, nine players to NAIA All-America teams, two ESPN the Magazine Academic All-Americans, and 17 student-athletes have been selected as NAIA Scholar-Athletes. Under Neisius, three players have been voted GPAC Players-of-the-Year and two NAIA Region Players-of-the-Year. The 2006 season was a history-making year for Dakota Wesleyan baseball, as well as the Great Plains Athletic Conference. DWU’s own Ben Jukich was drafted by the Oakland A’s in the 13th round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft. Jukich joins six other players under Neisius to sign a professional contract, but he is the first to be drafted. Neisius also serves as the head coach for the American International Baseball Team. The 2003 and 2005 teams brought home gold medals from Holland while playing in the Robur ’58 Tournament. The 2004 team collected the silver medal while playing at Prague Baseball Week in Prague, Czech Republic. In 2002, the team won another gold medal in Australia, winning the Down Under Games in convincing fashion. The 2001 team collected the bronze medal at the Robur ’58 Tournament in Apeldoorn, Holland. In addition, 24 Wesleyan players have been selected to play for the American international squad. Neisius earned a degree in behavioral sciences from DWU in 1995 and then earned a master’s degree in physical education from the University of Northern Colorado. Coach Neisius serves as the sports management department chair, as well as the director of baseball operations for the Mitchell Baseball Association. Neisius was a four-year starter while playing at the college level and had a short professional playing career. Neisius lives in Mitchell. Stockton played at Trinidad State Junior College in 2002-03 then transferred to Dakota Wesleyan University for the 2004-05 seasons. Stockton was a two-year starter on the mound for the Tigers. During his two seasons with DWU he posted a 20-8 record, while setting records for wins, innings pitched, complete games, shutouts and strikeouts. Stockton was a two-time NAIA All-American and then played a short time professionally. Under the direction of Stockton the Tigers pitching staff has produced two pitchers to the All-Conference team; one pitcher to the All-Region team; one pitcher to the NAIA All-American team; two NAIA Scholar Athlete pitchers; one GPAC Pitcher-of-the-Year; and one Region III Pitcher-of-the-Year.
