Adam Anderson enters his second season as the head coach of the Tiger men’s and women’s golf programs. In his first season as head coach at Dakota Wesleyan University, Anderson led the DWU women to their fourth straight Great Plains Athletic Conference team championship, as well as the NAIA Region III Championship. The DWU women finished 21st at the NAIA National Tournament in 2006. He coached one NAIA All-American Honorable Mention, the first in the history of the DWU golf programs; the GPAC Player-of-the-Year; and three All-Conference performers on the women’s team. He also has coached one All-GPAC performer in men’s golf, five GPAC Players-of-the-Week and has had three NAIA Scholar-Athletes. For his efforts in 2005, Anderson was named the NAIA Region III Women’s Golf Coach-of-the-Year. Coach Anderson believes Dakota Wesleyan University offers a great situation for competitive high school golfers wishing to take their game to the next level. Besides having access to two beautiful 18-hole golf courses in Mitchell, he incorporates state-of-the-art video analysis to properly discern swing flaws and changes. The Tigers’ challenging schedule allows the men’s and women’s teams to compete in fall and spring golf seasons. Each team routinely plays six or seven events each season, or up to 14 per year. Furthermore, to fine-tune their skills before the spring tournaments begin, Anderson offers any member of his team an opportunity to attend a spring break golf trip to a southern location. He came to DWU from Elmwood Golf Course in Sioux Falls, S.D., where he worked in the pro shop for two seasons. Before moving to Sioux Falls, Anderson spent two years in Kansas City, Mo., where he was an assistant golf pro. He also taught science and was the chairman of the science department at Visitation Catholic Middle School in Kansas City. After earning his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame, Anderson spent two years in Oklahoma teaching science and mathematics to middle school students. A four-year member of the Fighting Irish golf team at Notre Dame, he made the traveling team his final two years. His best season came during his junior year when he was named to the NCAA Academic All-America team and the Big East Conference All-Conference team in 1999-00. During the summers following his junior and senior years, Anderson stayed in South Bend to help run the Nike Junior Golf programs as a camp counselor and an on-course instructor. Originally from the Mitchell area, Anderson worked locally during the summers at Lakeview Municipal Golf Course. In 2000, he set the course record and won the Mitchell City Golf Tournament. He also won the city golf title in 2006. Anderson lives in Mitchell. For more information on becoming a Tiger golfer, fill out on-line golf questionnaire and Coach Anderson will contact you.
