Index of Sports Press Releases Dec. 1, 2006 Centerville Native Austin Signs With DWU Basketball
MITCHELL, S.D.— Centerville High School senior Briana Austin has signed a letter of intent to attend Dakota Wesleyan University to play basketball for the 2007-08 athletic season. Austin, a Centerville, S.D., native, is a three-year starter in basketball at Centerville H.S. During her career, she has averaged 13.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. She also averages 3.0 steals and 2.1 assists. She has recorded 17 double-doubles. The 5-foot-9 inch senior forward is a three-time First-Team All-Conference selection in both basketball and volleyball. “Briana has the ability to be a successful player in our program,” DWU head women’s basketball coach Ann Konechne said. “She works very hard and her biggest strength is that she can play very strong on the defensive end of the floor.” As a junior in the 2005-06 season, Austin helped Centerville to a 22-3 record and a South Dakota Class “B” State Runner-up finish. “Graduating a large senior class, we hope Briana can step in and help us immediately,” Konechne said. Austin is a member of the National honor roll and the National Honor Society. She is the daughter of Brad and Barb Austin from Centerville. |
