Index of Sports Press Releases Dec. 3, 2006 Tiger Men Improve to 8-1 with Win Over Briar Cliff Sioux City, Iowa — Four players scored in double figures for Dakota Wesleyan as the Tigers improved to 8-1 with a 79-74 victory over Briar Cliff University in GPAC men’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 2) in Sioux City, Iowa. The Tigers trailed by one point at halftime, 37-36, and were down as many as eight points in the first half. At the 16:46 mark in the second half, Marcus Vontz connected on a 3-pointer to give DWU a 46-44 lead, and the Tigers never trailed again. The Tigers got up by as many as 15 points in the second half. Preston Broughton continued his solid play with 22 points and nine rebounds. He shot 10-14 from the field in the game. Junior point guard Andrew Lasche had his best game in a Tiger uniform scoring 17 points. He went 4-7 from 3-point range. Jesse Block and Marcus Vontz both scored 10 points. DWU shot 46.7 percent from the field and went 16-19 from the free throw line. Briar Cliff was led by Adi Cizmic who scored 24 points with 11 rebounds. The Chargers made 11 3-pointers on the day. They fall to 3-6 overall. DWU will return home to the Corn Palace on Wednesday night (Dec. 6) to face Morningside College. |
