MITCHELL, S.D.— Dakota Wesleyan University head women’s basketball coach Ann Konechne has announced that Colman-Egan High School senior Abby Hemmer has signed a letter of intent to attend DWU to play women’s basketball for the 2007-08 athletic season. Hemmer, a 6-foot-1 inch senior center, is a two-time All-DVC selection in basketball as a sophomore and a junior. She averaged 11.4 points and eight rebounds as a junior, helping Colman-Egan to a 20-2 overall record. “Abby will help fill a huge hole inside for us offensively and defensively next season,” Konechne said. “She is a strong rebounder and a defensive force in the middle.” The Dell Rapids, S.D., native averaged 11.4 points and seven rebounds as a sophomore helping the Hawks to a DVC Championship and a fourth place finish at the South Dakota Class “B” State Tournament. “It is very exciting to know that our program can attract and sign a dominant player like Abby to come to Dakota Wesleyan,” Konechne said. Hemmer is currently the National Honor Society president, student body president and class president at Colman-Egan. She is also an officer in the FFA and was a member of the volleyball team. Hemmer joins Centerville High School senior Briana Austin and Bon Homme High School senior McKenzie Dvoracek as the early signings in the 2007-08 DWU women’s basketball recruiting class. The Tiger women will take on Morningside College this Wednesday (Dec. 6) at 6 p.m. at the Corn Palace. |
