Index of Sports Press Releases Dec. 6, 2006 Upset Bid Falls Short for Tiger Women Mitchell, S.D. — Ninth-ranked Morningside College outscored Dakota Wesleyan 13-8 over the final 3:32 to hold on for a 68-65 victory in Great Plains Athletic Conference women’s basketball action on Wednesday (Dec. 6) at the Corn Palace. The Tigers led the ninth-ranked Mustangs 57-55 after Ashley Johnson converted an old-fashioned three-point play. That was the last time that the Tigers would hold the lead as Morningside scored six straight points. Dani Gass hit a 3-pointer to give the Mustangs the lead at the 3:12 mark. She then added a steal and lay-up to put Morningside up 61-57. The Tigers, who had been hampered by turnovers all season, had just 16 turnovers against the tough Mustang pressure defense. They also shot 40.7 percent from the field, while Morningside shot only 35.2 percent. Whitney Gard came off the bench to lead DWU with 15 points. Kelly Haiar also scored in double figures with 14 points and eight rebounds. Adria Pazour led the team with nine rebounds while adding eight points. Dani Gass led a pair of Mustang players who had double-doubles. Gass had 21 points and 12 rebounds while Autumn Bartel had 16 points and 11 rebounds. |
