Mustangs Defeat Tigers 31-10 in Wrestling Dual

Sioux City, Iowa — Morningside College won seven of the ten matches as the Mustangs defeated Dakota Wesleyan University, 31-10, in a Great Plains Athletic Conference wrestling dual on Wednesday (Dec. 6) in Sioux City, Iowa.

Dakota Wesleyan picked up three wins from Jordan Harer, Thomas Konechne and Lionel Riley.

Harer won a 6-3 decision over Jason Freudenberg at 141 pounds. Harer, who has already qualified for the NAIA National meet at 133 pounds, moved up a weight class on Wednesday.

Riley improved to 2-0 on the season with a 6-2 decision over Matt Kastl in the heavyweight division.

Konechne earned four team points with a 14-4 major decision win at 149 pounds over Mitch Peterson.

The Mustangs picked up three point decision wins at 133 pounds, 174 pounds and 197 pounds. They got a major decision win at 165 pounds, and had pins at 125, 157 and 184.

Dakota Wesleyan will travel to Kearney, Neb., this Saturday (Dec. 9) to take part in the University of Nebraska-Kearney Open. It will be the final competition for the DWU wrestling team before Christmas break.
