Index of Sports Press Releases Dec. 9, 2006 Broncos Run Past Tigers 75-46 Hastings, Neb. — Hastings College opened the second half on a 23-6 run during the first ten minutes to open up an eight point halftime lead as they ran away from Dakota Wesleyan, 75-46, in Great Plains Athletic Conference women’s basketball action on Saturday (Dec. 9) afternoon in Hastings, Neb. The Tigers (2-9, 0-5 GPAC) trailed just 34-26 at halftime despite shooting only 30 percent (6-20) from the field. Hastings came out firing in the second half and forced DWU into several turnovers. DWU finished the game with 27 total turnovers. Hastings, the returning NAIA II National Champion, hit 10 3-pointers in the contest. The story for the Broncos was Kay Broekemeier who led the way with 24 points and five 3-pointers. She was 9-20 from the field and had four steals and three assists. Heather McKeon and Maggie Schmaderer also had double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Senior forward Kara Overweg was the only Tiger player to reach double figures with 13 points. She also led the team with six rebounds. Adria Pazour had eight points and Kelly Haiar had six. The Tigers will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Sioux Falls to take on Augustana College. |
