Eight DWU Athletes Earn NAIA Scholar Athlete Award

MITCHELL— Eight Dakota Wesleyan University student-athletes have been named NAIA Scholar Athletes for the 2006 fall sports season. Five volleyball players, two cross country runners and a football player all earned NAIA Scholar Athlete recognition.

Volleyball players Kristi Anderson, Brittany Kirkey, Beth Kopfmann, Paula Mettler and Blythe Novotny joined cross country runners Carey Radway and Katie Weavill as well as football player Brett Maag received the honor.

To earn NAIA Scholar Athlete recognition you must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA, be a junior or senior and you have to have attended the school for one year.

Kirkey and Novotny are repeat winners in volleyball, Anderson earned the honor in women’s basketball last season and Weavill received recognition as a track athlete.
