Two Golfers Sign With DWU Men’s Program

Tyler Evenson signing with his parents Russell and Julie Evenson and DWU head coach Adam Anderson

MITCHELL, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan head men’s golf coach Adam Anderson has announced that Tyler Evenson and Andrew Olson have both signed letters of intent to compete for the Tigers during the 2007-08 season.

Evenson, a senior at Lead-Deadwood High School, is a four-time All-State golfer. He earned All-State honors by placing sixth at the South Dakota Class “A” State golf meet three seasons, and by finishing fourth at the state tournament as a junior. As a senior, he placed sixth individually, and helped Lead-Deadwood to a state team championship.

“Tyler is a very experienced golfer who has performed at a high level for a long time in his young career,” Anderson said. “I look forward to the challenge of helping him elevate his play to another level.”

Evenson was the 2005 SDGA Male Jr. Golfer-of-the-Year and the 2005 SDGA Jr. State Champion. He is a six-time letterwinner in golf and was the 2006 Black Hills Conference champion. This fall, Tyler shot a 64 (7-under) at Spearfish Canyon Country Club to win the Spearfish H.S. event.

“He is an explosive player who will be able to contribute to our team’s success immediately,” Anderson added.

Andrew Olson

Olson, a senior at Bennett County High School, is a two-time qualifier to the South Dakota State Golf Tournament. He had a scoring average of 81 in high school.

The Martin, S.D., native is a six-year letterwinner in wrestling and a two-time State placer taking third place at 130 pounds as a junior. He was also an All-State First-Team selection in football at Bennett County H.S.

“Andrew is a phenomenal athlete,” Anderson said. “His athletic ability combined with his pure love for the game will serve him very well in collegiate golf.”

Olson was a Boys State delegate and is a Wendy’s Heisman nominee.

“He is a leader in his school and community and I look forward to helping Andrew achieve his lowest scores ever to help out our team,” Anderson said.

The DWU men won four tournaments during the fall season and they are ranked second in the preseason NAIA Region III poll.
