Kansas Wrestlers Sign at Dakota Wesleyan

Mitchell, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan University head wrestling coach Josh Hardman has announced that Brandon Goodwin and Zach Hertzel from Lawrence (Kan.) High School have signed with the DWU wrestling program to compete during the 2007-08 season.

Goodwin, who will wrestle at 125 pounds, placed fifth at the Kansas State Wrestling Tournament as a junior in 2006 at 103 pounds. He finished the season with a 36-10 record. He was a Brute-Adidas Folkstyle All-American and a Junior National Greco-Roman All-American in 2006. Goodwin is currently second all-time in the state of Kansas with 20 single season tech falls and 56 two-point near falls. He also qualified for the state tournament as a sophomore.

Hertzel, who will wrestle at 141 pounds, placed sixth at the Kansas State Wrestling Tournament as a junior in 2006 at 135 pounds. He finished the season with a 32-9 record. As a sophomore he set the school record with 48 escapes in a season. He also qualified for the state tournament as a sophomore. Entering his senior season he has an 82-38 career record.

“Both Brandon and Zach have had good success in Kansas at the high school level,” Hardman said. “They are both very solid athletically and academically so I look forward to them joining the Tiger wrestling program.”
