Index of Sports Press Releases Dec. 29, 2006 Late Run Gives Tigers 12th Win MITCHELL, S.D.— The Dakota Wesleyan men’s basketball team finished the game on a 24-4 run to pull away for a 93-70 victory over Peru State College on the first day of the 2006 DWU TeamMakers Men’s Basketball Holiday Classic at the Corn Palace. The University of Sioux Falls defeated Dakota State University, 83-72, in the first game of the evening. DWU, the 14th-ranked team in NAIA II, led just 69-66 with 8:25 to play, but the Tigers held the Bobcats (4-10) to only four points the rest of the game. The Tigers (12-2) had four different players reach double figures in scoring led by All-American Brock Seim’s double-double of 26 points and 15 rebounds. Preston Broughton had 18 points and seven rebounds, while Kevin Talley had 15 and Marcus Vontz came off the bench for 14 points. Peru State trailed just 46-44 at halftime after shooting an amazing 57.6 percent from the floor and 54.5 percent from 3-point range. The Bobcats cooled off to only 37 percent in the second half to finish 48.3 percent for the game. DWU ended up shooting 49.2 percent from the field. The Tigers were 24-32 from the free throw line, while Peru State attempted just six free throws. Day two of the TeamMakers Holiday Classic will take place on Saturday (Dec. 30) and begin at 6 p.m., when Sioux Falls takes on Peru State. DWU will battle Dakota State at 8 p.m. |
