Women Upset #21 BHSU

Mitchell, S.D.— The Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball team made a statement in its first game of the season, upsetting 21st-ranked Black Hills State University, 65-57, in the home opener on Friday night (Nov. 3) at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D.

DWU outscored the Yellow Jackets by 12 points in the second half to overcome a four point deficit at halftime. The Tigers shot just 29.2 percent from the field in the first half, but improved to 50 percent in the second half.

The Tigers were only 3-13 from 3-point range in the first half, then went 5-10 from long range in the second half to get the upset win.

For DWU, Kelly Haiar led the team with 19 points. She was 11-14 from the free throw line in the game and finished with seven rebounds. Sophomore point guard Sarah Mortenson recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Adria Pazour also reached double figures with 11 points.

Black Hills State was led by Snjezana Dojcinovic who had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Brittney Klipfel and Alexis Krull had double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Dakota Wesleyan has little time to celebrate, as the Tigers return to the Corn Palace on Saturday (Nov. 4) to face South Dakota Tech.
