Nov. 3, 2006 Red Raiders End Season for Tigers Soccer Hastings, Neb.— Juan Baltazar scored a goal in the third minute of the game for the Dakota Wesleyan University men’s soccer team, but it was downhill from there as Northwestern College ended the Tigers season with a 5-1 victory in the semifinals of the NAIA Region III Men’s Soccer Tournament on Friday night (Nov. 3) in Hastings, Neb. The Tigers end their season with an overall record of 9-8-1. They finished third in the Great Plainst Athletic Conference, in their first season competing in the league. Baltazar scored off a through ball from Octavio Hernandez to put DWU ahead 1-0 just 2:39 into the game. The Red Raiders (10-9) then scored two goals in the first half to take a 2-1 lead at halftime. Northwestern then exploded for three more goals in the second half to end the Tigers outstanding season. Brett Brown had two goals, while Aaron O’Brien, Brad White and Dave Lavery scored the other goals. Northwestern now advances to the NAIA Region III Championship to face Hastings College. The winner will advance to the NAIA National Tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla. The DWU men’s soccer program does not have a senior on its 2006 roster. The Tigers will return its entire team for next season under head coach Kevin Farley. |
