Second-Ranked Cougars Shut Out DWU, 41-0

Mitchell, S.D. — Dusty Hovorka caught four touchdown passes and had 166 yards receiving to lead 2nd-ranked University of Sioux Falls to a 41-0 shut out victory over Dakota Wesleyan in Great Plains Athletic Conference football action on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 4) at Joe Quintal Field in Mitchell, S.D.

The Cougars piled up a season high 606 yards of total offense while the DWU offense was held to just 168 total yards. It was the fifth shutout that the Cougar defense has posted this season.

Sioux Falls ran for 315 yards, averaging 8.3 yards per rush in the game. All-American Mike Dvoracek led the way with 166 yards on 15 carries.

It was Hovorka and quarterback Chad Cavender that led the Cougar offense. The all-time leading receiver in USF history caught eight passes and scored two TDs in each half. Cavender finished the game 19-28 for 291 yards with four TDs. He also ran for a touchdown.

DWU could not get its offense on track against the stingy Cougar defense. The Tigers averaged just 2.8 yards per play. DWU did rush for 107 yards, but the passing game with quarterback Jon Doom struggled. Doom finished just 10-27 for 61 yards.

USF led 20-0 at the half, and then added three more touchdowns in the second half. The Cougars had other scoring opportunities, but they missed three field goals.

The Cougars finish the regular season 10-0 and earn the outright GPAC Championship.

Dakota Wesleyan falls to 3-6 overall. They will travel to Concordia University next Saturday (Nov. 11) to close out the 2006 season in Seward, Neb.
