Nov. 4, 2006 Pazour Leads Tigers to 76-64 Win
Mitchell, S.D.— Junior center Adria Pazour scored 29 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead the Dakota Wesleyan University women to a 76-64 victory over South Dakota Tech on Saturday night (Nov. 4) in NAIA women’s basketball action at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D. DWU opens the season with a 2-0 record. Pazour was 9-13 from the field and 11-14 from the free throw line to reach career highs for points and rebounds. DWU trailed by as many as 11 points in the first half and was the Tigers were down 36-27 at halftime. The Tigers outscored the Hardrockers 28-6 from 15:31 to 4:54 in the second half to regain the lead and get up by as many as 12 points after a 3-pointer by Sarah Mortenson. For the second straight night, the Tigers struggled shooting in the first half (34.5 percent), but improved in the second 20 minutes. DWU outscored the Hardrockers 49-28 in the second half while shooting 46.9 percent. Besides Pazour’s 29 points, two other Tigers reached double figures in scoring. Senior Kelly Haiar had another solid game scoring 20 points, while Mortenson added 31 points. Dakota Wesleyan struggled from 3-point range shooting just 4-22 from beyond the arc. South Dakota Tech was led by Amber DeWeerd who scored 18 points. Leah Sundby added a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. DWU will hit the road next weekend when they travel to North Dakota to take on Valley City State University on Friday and Jamestown College on Saturday. |
