Farley Named Head Men’s Soccer Coach

Mitchell, S.D. — Following a successful season as Dakota Wesleyan’s interim head men’s soccer coach, Kevin Farley has accepted the position on a permanent basis.

“Coach Farley has created a culture of success not only on the field, but in the classroom and the community,” Dakota Wesleyan Athletic Director Chad Vogel said. “His hard work has positioned his program squarely in line with the vision and values of this institution.”

Farley, who stepped in as the interim head coach after Brad Smith resigned in May, led the Tigers to a 9-8-1 overall record in 2006. He coached the Tigers to the NAIA Region III Final Four, and a third place finish in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. He guided the Tigers to an 8-3-1 conference record in their first year in the GPAC. He was the associate head coach at DWU in 2005.

“I have had the pleasure of working with a very special group of young student-athletes this season who have experienced a lot of success in a short time,” Farley said. “I have been very happy here at DWU and in the Mitchell community and I look forward to continuing as head men’s soccer coach.”

The Tigers did not have one senior on their 2006 roster and will return the entire team from its 2006 successful season.

“I am very excited about the future of the DWU men’s soccer team,” Farley said. “I hope that the Mitchell community will continue to grow with us in their support as they have this year so we can enjoy the success together.”

Farley, a native of Lewisville, Texas, came to DWU after spending three seasons at Si Tanka University in Huron, S.D. During his time at Si Tanka, he was a part of the coaching staff that led teams to the NAIA National Championship in 2003 and 2004. Those teams were also the NAIA Region III champions in both of those years.

He has a National D License from the United States Soccer Federation and a National Diploma Certification from the National Soccer Coaches Association. Farley graduated in 2003 from Si Tanka University with a degree in business management.
