Index of Sports Press Releases Nov. 15, 2006 Tiger Men Start 6-0 For First Time in 60 Years Mitchell, S.D. — For the first time since the 1946-47 season, the Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball team has started the season with a 6-0 record. The Tigers rolled to a 92-39 victory over Nebraska Christian College on Tuesday (Nov. 14) night to improve their record to 6-0 overall. DWU jumped out to an early 49-19 lead at halftime and cruised to the 53-point victory at the Corn Palace on Tuesday. Four DWU players reached double figures in scoring. Guard Jered Hokenson scored a career-high 16 points to lead the Tigers. Hokenson went 4-7 from 3-point range and also added a game-high seven assists. Marcus Vontz came off the bench to score 14 points, while Preston Broughton had 12 points and Rudy Niewenhuis scored 11. The Tigers out rebounded Nebraska Christian, 58-36, and forced the Parsons into 23 turnovers. Elliot Neuheisel led the Tigers with 11 rebounds. He also scored nine points. DWU shot just 47.4 percent from the field, but the Tigers held Nebraska Christian to a shooting percentage of 26.2. The Parsons were just 1-16 from 3-point range. The Tigers will now have one week off until they open Great Plains Athletic Conference play against eighth-ranked University of Sioux Falls on Nov. 21 at Sioux Falls.
