Shooting Struggles Doom DWU Women

Mitchell, S.D. — The Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball team shot just 24.5 percent from the field (12-49) and Northern State University took advantage winning 66-44 on Wednesday night (Nov. 15) at the Corn Palace.

DWU (2-3) was just 4-22 from the field in the first half and 1-13 from 3-point range.

DWU trailed 33-13 at half, and went 8:54 in the second half before they made their first field goal.

Ashley Johnson finally made a layup at the 11:06 mark in the second half to break the Tigers streak without a field goal in the second half. The Wolves (1-0) went on a 27-7 run during that streak.

Northern State, the preseason pick to win the NSIC, had two players reach double figures in scoring. Carolin Becker scored 17 points, while Miranda Boepple scored 14 points.

For the Tigers, no players reached double figures in scoring. Jennifer Pommer had eight points and Ashley Johnson added seven.

DWU will be right back in action on Friday (Nov. 17) when they travel to Madison, S.D., to take on Dakota State University.
