Index of Sports Press Releases Nov. 29, 2006 Lancers Give Tigers Sixth Straight Loss Mitchell, S.D. — The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball team got within four points with just over one minute to play, but Mount Marty College would not allow them to get any closer as the Lancers earned a 71-62 victory in Great Plains Athletic Conference women’s basketball action on Wednesday at the Corn Palace. The loss gives the Tigers their sixth straight loss and gives them an overall record of 2-6. They fall to 0-2 in the GPAC. Mount Marty improves to 6-2 overall. DWU cut the lead to 62-58 after Sarah Mortenson hit a 3-pointer at the 1:06 mark, but the Lancers closed the game on a 9-4 run to get the win. The Lancers went 9-12 from the free throw line to score their nine points. Senior Kelly Haiar led the Tigers with 18 points on 7-8 shooting from the floor. Kara Overweg, Adria Pazour and Sarah Mortenson all added 11 points for the Tigers. Pazour led the team with eight rebounds. Mount Marty was led by Michelle Anderson who scored 14 points. The Lancers shot just 36.7 percent from the floor, but only committed nine turnovers compared to the Tigers 20. DWU will be back in action on Saturday (Dec. 2) when they travel to Sioux City, Iowa to take on Briar Cliff University at 2 p.m. |
