Oct. 18, 2006 Tolsma Earns Gazette National Player of the Week
Westmont, Ill. — Dakota Wesleyan freshman kicker Nick Tolsma has been named as a NAIA Special Teams National Player-of-the-Week by Don Hansen’s Football Gazette. The Football Gazette is a weekly publication that has been published since 1986. It covers small college football from NCAA I-AA to NAIA, Tolsma, a Rapid City, S.D., native broke a DWU school record by connecting on three field goals in the Tigers 16-13 victory over Doane College on Saturday at Joe Quintal Field in Mitchell, S.D. Tolsma made field goals from 24, 27 and 31 yards and also made his only PAT attempt. Tolsma also averaged 41.0 yards on three punts with a long of 49 yards. He pinned Doane inside its own 20 yard line once. He is currently second in the GPAC in punting averaging 38.0 yards per kick. For the season, Tolmsa is 4-5 on field goals, 4-4 on PATs. Dakota Wesleyan improved their record to 3-4 on the season. The Tigers travel to Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday (Oct. 21) to take on 24th-ranked Nebraska Wesleyan University at 2:30 p.m. at Abel Stadium.
