Cruz Hits Game-Winner in Overtime

Mitchell, S.D. -- Gerald Cruz scored the game winning goal with 1:01 to play in the first overtime to give Dakota Wesleyan University a 1-0 victory over Midland Lutheran College on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 21) at Cadwell Park in Mitchell, S.D.

With just over one minute to play in the first overtime, Octavio Hernandez sent a cross in front of the net and Cruz was able to put the header into the back of the net to allow the Tigers to earn a win in their final regular season Great Plains Athletic Conference game.

The Tigers improve to 8-3-1 in the GPAC and moved into second place in the current league standings. The Warriors fall to 6-6 in the league and seventh in the GPAC standings.

In a match that was played in cold and windy conditions, neither team was able to get any offense going for the entire game. DWU managed eight shots on goal, while Midland Lutheran had five.

Adam Cruz got the shutout in goal for the Tigers.

The Tigers will close out their regular season next Saturday (Oct. 28) when they travel to Fayette, Iowa to take on Upper Iowa University.
