Oct. 28, 2006 Men 8th, Women 12th at GPAC Cross Country Blair, Neb.— Nebraska Wesleyan University won both the men’s and women’s team races at the 2006 Great Plains Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships held Saturday (Oct. 28) at Blair, Neb. The NWU women had the top three placers, including Brittany Hubbard who won her second straight individual title. The NWU men had four in the top ten, but Concordia University runner Luka Thor was the medalist. The Dakota Wesleyan men finished in eighth place as a team, while the Tiger women placed 12th in the 12 team field. Freshman Thomas Madut was the top placer for the Tiger men, placing in the top 20 by finishing 19th overall with a time of 27:27.45. Fellow freshman Tyrone White was the next highest placer for DWU finishing in 42nd place with a time of 28:32.31. Isaac VanDyke (53rd), Forrest Lumpry (59th) and Jason Lanning (66th) rounded out the Tiger scoring. DWU finished with 205 total team points to place eighth. NWU won the meet with 37 points, while Doane College placed second with 53 points. Concordia (73), Hastings (139) and Dana (150) rounded out the top five teams. Senior Katie Weavill led the Tiger women with a time of 20:15.17 to place 24th individually. Junior Amy McIntyre placed 66th overall, while Heidi Birkley (87th), Ashley Haushild (91st) and Amy Price (95th) made up the rest of the DWU women’s team. NWU won the team race with 23 points, while Concordia placed second with 76. Both the DWU men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete in the NAIA Regional Meet next Saturday (Nov. 4) at Prairie Green Golf Course at Sioux Falls, S.D. |
