Oct. 28, 2006 Peacocks Beat Tigers 3-2 in Soccer Fayette, Iowa —Upper Iowa University got a goal from Casey Holm in the final minute of the match to defeat Dakota Wesleyan University, 3-2, in men’s soccer action on Saturday (Oct. 28) at Fayette, Iowa. The loss drops DWU to 9-6-1 overall. The Tigers will now wait for the pairings to be announced for the NAIA Regional Tournament. Upper Iowa led 2-0 with just 15 minutes to play in the match, but the Tigers showed great heart to battle back. At the 83:13 mark, defender Kyle Cathey scored off an assist from Preston Thomas to bring the Tigers back within one goal with just under seven minutes to play. Just 34 seconds later, Juan Baltazar scored a goal to tie the game and give the Tigers the momentum heading into the final five minutes. However, Holm took a pass from Jeremy Jacobson to score the game-winner with only 46 seconds left in the match. Upper Iowa led 1-0 at halftime when Holm scored a goal at the 11:08 mark. Dakota Wesleyan outshot the Peacocks 11-10 with seven of those shots on goal. Patrick Ryan took the loss in goal for the Tigers, allowing three goals with one save. The Tigers are expected to be included in the NAIA Region III Tournament that begins next week. The official pairings are to be announced early Sunday morning (Oct. 29). The first round of the Region III tournament will be held Oct. 31 with the No. 6 seed traveling to the No. 3 seed, and the No. 5 seed visiting the No. 4 seed. The semifinals and finals will be held next weekend (Nov. 3-4) at the home site of the top seeded team in the region. |
