Oct. 31, 2006 Volleyball Team Qualifies For Postseason Tournament Mitchell, S.D. —The Dakota Wesleyan University volleyball team defeated rival University of Sioux Falls, 3-1, for the second time this season and with the win the Tigers qualify for the 2006 Great Plains Athletic Conference postseason tournament. DWU defeated USF, 30-25, 30-28, 25-30, 30-19 in front of a festive Halloween crowd at the Christen Wellness Center. The Tigers improve their record to 10-22 overall and 5-11 in the GPAC. DWU ties Mount Marty College in the GPAC standings, and the Tigers win the tiebreaker due to the head-to-head victory over the Lancers. Unofficially, DWU will be the #8 seed and travel to top-seeded Hastings College for the quarterfinals on Saturday (Nov. 4). Official pairings for the 2006 Mutual of Omaha/GPAC Postseason tournament will be released later this week. Three Tigers reached double figures in kills in the match. Maria Wieneke led the way with 16 kills, while Kalie Whealy and Blythe Novotny each had 15 kills. Setter Beth Kopfmann handed out a match-high 52 assists, while Cheri Klabenes had 27 digs. For Sioux Falls, Beth Mathes led the way posting a double-double with 19 kills and 10 digs. |
