Dec. 5, 2007 #2 Northwestern Rolls Past DWU, 103-71 Mitchell, S.D. — The second-ranked Northwestern College women’s basketball team shot an astounding 65.6 percent from the floor as they rolled to a 103-71 victory over Dakota Wesleyan University in GPAC womens basketball action on Wednesday night at the Corn Palace. Northwestern remains perfect at 11-0 while DWU drops below .500 at 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the GPAC. The Red Raiders were 12-19 from 3-point range and 8-12 in the first half to jump out to a 56-40 lead at halftime. All-American Debbie Remmerde was 15-18 from the floor to lead Northwestern with a game high 34 points. Northwestern led by as many as 35 points in the second half. DWU pulled within nine points with just over three minutes to play before halftime but the Tigers could get no closer. The Tigers shot 47.1 percent from the floor in the first half but struggled in the second half shooting just 37.5 percent. Whitney Gard came off the bench to lead DWU with 10 points. She was the only Tiger in double figure. Sara Mortenson added nine points with a team high six rebounds. Besides Remmerde’s 34 points, Amy Larson finished with 19 points hitting five 3-pointers. Mandy Carr also reached double figures with 10 points. DWU travels to Seward, Neb. this Saturday to face 12th ranked Concordia University at 2 p.m. |
