Dec. 10, 2007 No. 12 Concordia Is Too Much for Tigers in 70-57 Win SEWARD, NEB. — The Dakota Wesleyan women’s basketball team fought nationally ranked Concordia University to a 44-44 tie with 11:22 left in the game, but the Bulldogs were too much for the Tigers in GPAC action on Saturday (Dec. 8) at Seward, Neb. The Bulldogs beat the Tigers 70-57. The Tigers (5-7, 2-3 GPAC) held the Bulldogs to 32.1 percent shooting from the field in the first half, and shot 44.0 percent from the field to go into the locker room at halftime with a 28-28 tie. However, Concordia shot 46.7 percent from the field in the second half and DWU shot only 32.3 percent. The last tie of the game was 44-44 with 11:22 left to play. But in the next four minutes, the Tigers missed three layups and three 3-point shot attempts, and the Bulldogs made two 3-pointers to take a six-point lead. This was the closest the Tigers would get. The Tigers only had two players in double figures. Sophomore Allison Johnson led the Tigers on the afternoon with 21 points and five rebounds, and Sarah Mortenson added 10 points. Concordia was led by Whitney Stichka who had 22 points. She was 8-15 from the field and 5-5 from the charity stripe. The other two players in double figures for the Bulldogs were Melissa Tinkham with 18 points and Jordan Schmoldt with 12 points. The Bulldogs outrebounded DWU 44-31. DWU will travel to Mankato, Minn., to take on Bethany Lutheran College on Wednesday (Dec. 12) and University of Minnesota Mankato on Thursday (Dec. 13). |
