Dec. 10, 2007 Cold Shooting Night for DWU in 71-62 Loss SEWARD, NEB. — After being down by as many as 17 points in the second half, the closest the Dakota Wesleyan University men’s basketball team could get to Concordia University was within three points as Concordia went on to a 71-62 victory on Saturday (Dec. 8) in GPAC action in Seward, Neb. The Tigers (8-4, 3-2 GPAC) jumped out to a 7-2 lead at the 16:50 mark of the first half, but that would be the only lead that the Tigers would have for the rest of the game. The Bulldogs (7-6, 2-3 GPAC) went on an 11-0 run in the next minute to take a 13-7 lead and build on that to hold a 36-27 halftime lead. In the second half, the Tigers were able to pull within three points of the Bulldogs off a three-point shot by Colby Fitzgerald with 7:20 left to play in the game. However, the Tigers would not get any closer to Concordia as the Bulldogs executed offensively in the final minutes of the game to seal the victory. Neither team had a great offensive night from the floor with the Tigers shooting 40.7 percent from the field and 31.8 percent from 3-point range. The Bulldogs finished with 40.0 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from long range. Concordia ended with an 80.0 percent (12-15) advantage at the charity stripe compared to 57.9 percent (11-19) for the Tigers. For the Tigers, Scott Nelson came off the bench to lead the team with a career-high 20 points, going 7-11 from the field and 3-5 from 3-point range. Preston Broughton and Fitzgerald, DWU’s leading scorers on the season, had a slow start with neither scoring in the first half; however, Fitzgerald finished with 16 points and Broughton ended with eight points. The Bulldogs were led by Benjamin Buhr with 19 points; coming off the bench was Dustin Weber with 14 points. DWU will travel to Madison, S.D., to take on Dakota State University on Monday (Dec. 10). |
