Tigers Edge Out Bethany Lutheran in 67-65 Win

MANKATO, MINN. — Ashley Johnson made a layup with four seconds left in the game to put Dakota Wesleyan ahead of Bethany Lutheran and seal a 67-65 victory in a nonconference game on Wednesday (Dec. 12) at Mankato, Minn.

The Tigers (6-7, 2-3 GPAC) had to overcome a six-point deficit at halftime and were down by as many as 10 points during the second half. Ashley Johnson made a 3-pointer with 1:26 left to play in the game to tie the score at 65. In the next 1:20, Bethany Lutheran missed a layup and a jumper, and DWU forward Angela Noteboom was unable to connect on a layup. Ashley Johnson then made the go-ahead layup, and the Vikings missed a 3-point basket as time expired on the clock.

Allison Johnson led the Tigers with 26 points and went 8-10 from the free-throw line. Adria Pazour finished with 17 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, and Ashley Johnson added 10 points. As a team, the Tigers struggled from the field, shooting just 33.3 percent and a dismal 11.5 percent from 3-point range. However, DWU had only 15 turnovers compared to 21 for Bethany Lutheran.

For the Vikings, Leslie Bremer and Ema Voss both finished with 16 points. Bremer also grabbed a team-high 18 rebounds to help her team outrebound Dakota Wesleyan 52-43.

DWU will play the University of Minnesota Mankato on Thursday (Dec. 13) with tip-off at 6 p.m. Mankato, who is 8-0 on the season, was ranked No. 25 in the most recent NCAA Division II Women’s Basketball Poll.
