Nov. 2, 2007 DWU Soccer Signs Three South Dakota All-State Players Mitchell, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan University head men’s soccer coach Kevin Farley announced Friday (Nov. 2) the signing of three South Dakota All-State High School players to join the DWU men’s soccer program. Eric Christianson from Pierre High School, Lance Mohr from Aberdeen Central High School and Jordan Werner from Mitchell High School all have committed to play for the Tigers during the 2008 soccer season. “The signing of Eric Christianson, Lance Mohr and Jordan Werner is a huge success in recruiting for the DWU Men’s Soccer Program,” Farley said. “All three players were unanimous vote getters for First Team All-State in South Dakota. These guys are well known across the state as the three top players in South Dakota and the signings say a great deal about the reputation that the DWU Soccer Program is built upon solid talent and kids with great character.” Christianson (5-8, MF) was a 2007 All-State First-Team selection as a midfielder as a senior and was All-State Second Team as a junior in 2006. He helped lead his team to the 2006 State Championship. Off the field he is ranked number one in his class, the student body president and a member of the National Honor Society. “Words can’t really describe what I feel Eric brings to this team,” Farley said. “Eric’s work ethic, vision, ball skill, and character will help us to fill the void in center midfield. As the number one ranked student academically, he has demonstrated on and off the field that he will make an immediate impact at the college level.” Mohr (6-0, F) was a two-time All-State First-Team selection as a forward. He scored at least 10 goals in each season and finished his career with 36 career goals. Mohr was voted a team captain as a senior. He was a 4.0 student at Aberdeen Central High School. “Lance is a player who is very similar to Eric in his make-up as a person,” Farley said. “Lance is a very hard worker who can play anywhere on the field. As a left footed player who is very dangerous with his back to the goal, Lance will challenge for a starting spot in several positions. He could make us very a dangerous team by playing in the role of a target player.” Werner (6-0, GK) was selected as the All-State First-Team goalkeeper as a senior for Mitchell United. He recorded 187 saves on the season, averaging 14 per game. He recorded a save percentage of 89 percent and allowed 2.69 goals per game. During his club season, he recorded seven shut outs and had only four games where he allowed more than one goal. “Jordan is an enormous addition in the goal that will help us to improve right away,” Farley said. “He brings with him incredible athleticism, leadership, and a competitive nature that is second to none. His demanding and positive communication skills will strengthen our defense right away and I look for him to challenge right away for the number one spot as goal keeper.” Dakota Wesleyan finished the 2007 season with a 5-10 overall record. |
