Nov. 9, 2007 DWU Women Get First Win Versus Valley City Mitchell, S.D. — Three players reached double figures and the Dakota Wesleyan women hit 10 3-pointers as the Tigers picked up their first victory of the season with a 67-56 win over Valley City State University on Friday (Nov. 9) at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D It was the seventh straight victory in a home opener for the DWU women. DWU (1-2) hit seven 3-pointers in the first half to jump out to a 35-25 lead at halftime. The Tigers extended their lead to as many as 18 points in the second half before holding on for the 11 point win. Senior center Adria Pazour led DWU with 14 points and nine rebounds. Sarah Mortenson scored 13 points on 3-4 shooting from 3-point range. She also added eight rebounds and three assists. Ashley Johnson also reached double figures with 11 points including three 3-pointers. The Tigers finished the game shooting 41.2 percent from the floor and held the Vikings to just 32.3 percent from the floor. DWU also committed a season low 19 turnovers. Abby Dralle led VCSU with 13 points, while Terra Billiet had eight points and 15 rebounds. DWU returns right back to action on Saturday afternoon when they host Jamestown College at 4 p.m. |
