Nov. 10, 2007 Women Can’t Rally Past Jamestown Mitchell, S.D. — Kenzie Dvoracek hit a 3-pointer to pull Dakota Wesleyan within six points with 3:54 to play in the game, but the Tiger women could get no closer as Jamestown College held on for a 70-61 victory in NAIA II women’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 10) at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, S.D. Jamestown (3-3) led by as many as 21 points with just over nine minutes to play in the game, but DWU guard Ashley Johnson caught fire and scored 14 points over the next six minutes to pull the Tigers within six points at 61-55. DWU (1-3) trailed by 11 points at halftime, 34-23, after shooting just 36.4 percent from the field. The Tigers did not shoot much better in the second half (39.3) to end the game at 38.0 percent. The Tigers were just 4-18 from 3-point range. Ashley Johnson led DWU with 21 points. Twin sister Allison Johnson was the only other Tiger to reach double figures as she scored 11 points. Jamestown was led by Giuli Varriano who had a game-high 34 points and 10 rebounds shooting 14-16 from the floor. Cori Doubek had 15 for the Jimmies. Jamestown out rebounded DWU, 35-26. Dakota Wesleyan will be back on the floor on Tuesday (Nov. 13) when they hit the road to face York College in York, Neb. |
