Football Team Ends Season with 3 Straight Wins

Keith Jones rushed for career high 199 yards

Blair, Neb. — For the first time since the 1997 season the Dakota Wesleyan University football team won three straight football games as the Tigers defeated Dana College, 27-20, in Great Plains Athletic Conference football action on Saturday (Nov. 10) at Viking Field in Blair, Neb.

The Tigers finish the 2007 season with a 4-6 overall record and end the year tied for sixth place in the GPAC standings. DWU equaled its 4-6 record from the 2006 season.

With the victory, DWU had its first three game winning streak since the GPAC began. It also ends the season with three straight victories for the first time since 1994.

The game was tied 20-20 in the fourth quarter and Sergio Leon missed a 45-yard field goal for the Tigers with 7:00 to play in the game.

On Dana’s next play quarterback Marcus Sladek fumble on the first play and Jordan Gau recovered on the Dana 30 yard line.

DWU ran the ball on five consecutive plays and quarterback Jon Doom capped the drive with a 1-yard TD plunge.

Dana took the next drive all the way down to the DWU 26 yard line, but the Tiger defense held the Vikings on a 4th & 12 play to give the Tigers the ball back.

Running back Keith Jones then sealed the win with a 53-yard run to allow DWU to run out the clock.

Jones finished his career with a monster game with 34 carries for 198 yards with two TDs. DWU had 261 total rush yards and 490 yards of total offense.

Doom ended the game throwing for 200 yards on 13-27 passing. Fullback Alan Swartz was the leading receiver with five catches for 30 yards. Bubba Slaba caught two passes for 67 yards.

Junior linebacker Daniel Wysong led the DWU defense with 11 total tackles (8 solo) and added an interception. Lucas Sieve had 10 tackles.
