Nov. 12, 2007 Tolsma Named Academic All-District
Mitchell, S.D. — Dakota Wesleyan University sophomore punter Nick Tolsma has been named Second-Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VII. Tolsma, a Rapid City, S.D., native, has a 3.73 GPA as a pre-medicine major. He averaged 39.6 yards per punt as a sophomore this season to rank second in the GPAC in punting. He ended the season with 21 punts inside the 20 yard line and had a long punt of 66 yards. He is one of only five NAIA players on the first and second teams in the college division of district seven. Tolsma earned All-GPAC second-team honors as a sophomore and was an All-GPAC honorable mention pick as a true freshman. Student-athletes must meet four criteria to earn ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District honors: 1) must have a cumulative GPA of 3.20 or better, 2) must have at least two terms of attendance at the institution, 3) must be at least a sophomore in athletic eligibility, 4) must be a starter or key reserve in their respective sport. The All-District selection is determined by voting of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). District VII is comprised of NCAA Division II and Division III and NAIA institutions from the states of Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming and the Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. |
